What is Blessed Machine?
Blessed Machine is a new comic book series in production at Imaginary Tales.
The book is being created by Pete Ruttman and Kurt
Wood. Pete
is
handling the writing chores and Kurt is doing the art.
However,
as with many independent books the creators wear different hats to get
the job done. We'll chronicle this process as these two
work
together for the first time.
What
is Blessed Machine about?
Deep
beneath Vatican City rests an ancient labyrinth containing the
headquarters of a clandestine branch of the Swiss Guard known as
C.R.O.S.S. Like the Knights Templar before them, this group
seeks
to protect all God-fearing people. While their enemies use
anything including ancient magic to further their evil plans,
C.R.O.S.S. uses cutting edge technology honed by two-thousand years of
faith to counter them. It’s this rich tapestry that makes up
the
backdrop for Blessed Machine.
Blessed Machine is a story
about the newest agent of C.R.O.S.S., Tiberius Crane. Reborn
from
the ashes of a horrific terrorist attack, Tiberius was rebuilt as a
human cyborg advanced far beyond that of an Olympic level
athlete. Tiberius protects humanity from the likes
of
terrorists, mythical creatures and even other cyborgs while he explores
his new role in the world.
I've
never heard of these guys. Who's this Pete Ruttman?
Blessed
Machine is Pete Ruttman's freshman comic book project. While
he
is an unpublished writer, he's plotted twenty-two years of
role-playing game adventures. This time he'll get to decide
what
the heroes do instead of letting the players muck it up. God,
what a relief.
...And
Kurt Wood...who the Hell is he?
Kurt
has deep platonic love for Superman and has successfully published
Brandon's Little Problem with Kevin J. Smith. They have been
touring mid-west comic conventions selling the book for a number of
years.
You
guys use God's name in vein? Isn't that a no-no for a bunch
of religious zealots?
Actually,
neither of us are Catholic and we definitely are not religion
zealots. Kurt is somewhat of a Superman zealot, but I don't
think
that is really the issue here. The book will deal with
religion,
at times, as many of the cast is religious, but in the end the book is
about Tiberius Crane and his new life. His faith will play a
part
in
determining what he says and what he does as much as the people he
meets and the situations he finds himself in. We can
guarantee
that Tiberius will not be the same person by the end of this series
that you meet in issue #1.
Where
can I get Blessed Machine?
Sadly, Blessed Machine issue #1 is not available yet.
However,
we plan to have an ashcan for distribution at Fallcon on October 4-5, 2008. During the cold and long winter months
we
hope to churn out an issue or two for the Spring/Fall convention
season. Wish us luck!
